SonoriAmo
Musical Propaedeutics for Infants and Primary Schools

"SonoriAmo" is a playful and creative musical journey for children! Our introductory music program stimulates listening, movement, and improvisation through games, dances, and the discovery of ethnic sounds. From percussion rhythms to instrument-building, every activity is designed to nurture creativity, coordination, and self-expression. A musical experience that grows alongside children!

General Objectives:

โ€‹

Develop musical perception through listening, movement, and improvisation

The primary goal of the program is to stimulate children’s ability to perceive and understand sounds, rhythms, and melodies. By listening to various types of music, children will learn to recognize different timbres, dynamics, and pitches, enhancing their musical sensitivity. Movement will be used as a tool to explore rhythm through dances and body games, helping children internalize the concept of musical timing in a fun and engaging way. Improvisation will allow them to freely express their emotions and explore new sounds.

โ€‹

Introduce children to diverse musical languages and informal music reading

The program aims to expose children to a variety of musical styles, from classical to ethnic, popular, jazz, and contemporary music. Each genre will be presented in an accessible manner, encouraging children to identify differences in rhythm, tempo, and tonality. Informal music reading, which does not require prior knowledge of traditional musical notation, will be introduced using graphic symbols, colors, and shapes, making music visible and understandable even to those unfamiliar with conventional note-reading. This approach will enable children to read and understand simple rhythmic and melodic patterns, fostering their ability to express themselves musically.

โ€‹

Promote the exploration of the body and voice as musical instruments

A key aspect of the program is using the body and voice as true musical instruments. Children will be encouraged to explore movement and voice as expressive tools for creating sounds and rhythms, developing motor coordination and body awareness. Activities will include body percussion, vocal games, and singing, teaching children to use their body and voice creatively to produce music. Vocal exploration will involve singing simple melodies, repeating sounds and words, and experimenting with vocal qualities (pitch, intensity, timbre). This approach supports not only musical development but also emotional and social growth, making music a tool for expression and communication.

โ€‹

Discover the sounds and rhythms of ethnic percussion

The program introduces children to the richness of sounds from ethnic percussion instruments from various musical traditions worldwide. Children will explore instruments like djembes, congas, bongos, African drums, and Brazilian percussion, learning to recognize and reproduce the characteristic sounds of each. The goal is to stimulate curiosity about the variety of rhythms and timbres from different cultures, allowing children to connect with musical traditions that are both distant and universal. This aspect fosters not only musical awareness but also respect and appreciation for cultural diversity.

Create percussion instruments using recycled materials

Another important objective is to spark children’s creativity through instrument-making. Using recycled materials such as bottles, boxes, caps, paper, wood, and metal, children will have the opportunity to craft their personalized percussion instruments. This activity promotes hands-on learning, problem-solving skills, and environmental awareness. Additionally, by constructing instruments, children will learn to identify the sound that each material can produce, deepening their understanding of the relationship between material, sound, and music.

Movement games and body dances in relation to music

A fundamental goal of the program is to develop body and movement awareness in relation to music. Children will be encouraged to explore various types of movement in response to different musical styles, from free movement to structured dances. Dance and movement activities will help children understand musical concepts like rhythm, tempo, intensity, and dynamics, creating a direct connection between body and sound. Through playful and physical interaction with music, children will naturally develop a sense of musical timing, improving their coordination, creative expression, and self-confidence. Integrating movement with music also enhances non-verbal communication and socialization, supporting group learning and empathy.

Educational Approach

The introductory music program for preschool children is based on a playful and experiential approach that places the child as an active protagonist in their learning journey. Music is viewed as a universal language that allows children to explore, communicate, and develop cognitive, emotional, and social skills through interaction with sound and movement. The approach is inspired by established pedagogical methodologies such as the Orff Method, Gordon Method, and other educational theories, adapted to the needs and developmental characteristics of young children.

Core Principles of the Approach:

  • Active and playful learning: Every child is encouraged to explore music spontaneously, playing with sounds and rhythms through engaging and practical activities. Music becomes a form of play that stimulates curiosity and creativity, fostering learning through doing.

  • Integration of music and movement: The body is used as an instrument to explore rhythm, melody, and harmony. Activities like body percussion and dance are fundamental for developing motor coordination, rhythmic sense, and body awareness. Music and movement are inseparable and mutually supportive in the learning process.

  • Development of expressive skills: The program goes beyond teaching musical technique to encourage every child to develop their expressive abilities. Singing, vocal games, and bodily movement are used to express emotions, stories, and ideas, allowing children to communicate through music and movement.

  • Multisensory education: The approach is strongly multisensory, stimulating not only hearing but also sight, touch, and movement. Informal music reading using symbols and images makes music accessible even to the youngest, offering an immediate understanding of musical concepts without advanced theoretical knowledge.

  • Inclusion of diverse cultural musical traditions: The program includes the exploration of various musical traditions through listening and practicing ethnic instruments and diverse musical genres like African, Brazilian, Southern Italian folk, jazz, and classical music. This approach helps children develop intercultural sensitivity, teaching them to respect and appreciate diversity.

  • Creativity and autonomy: The activities encourage individual and group creativity, giving children the opportunity to improvise, invent, and experiment with music. Building instruments with recycled materials and engaging in composition and improvisation activities stimulate autonomy and critical thinking.

  • Inclusive and collaborative environment: Every child, regardless of ability, is welcomed into an environment that promotes inclusion, collaboration, and mutual respect. Music becomes a bridge that unites, fostering socialization and the development of relational skills through musical play and interaction.
